Real Oviedo were eliminated from the Copa del Rey this evening, as Los Azules fell to a 3-1 defeat against Badalona.
Javi Rozada made 10 changes to the line-up to freshen the side up, including bringing in three B-team players.  Badalona dominated the early  stages of the game and Real Oviedo found it difficult to get into the match, as well as allowing their opponents to have the more dangerous chances.  The opening goal was scored by the Catalans from one such passage of play, with Hugo the scorer.  Little by little, Los Azules began to respond.  Riki had the chance to equalise, but the home keeper made a fine save to deny him.  Minutes later, Ibra met a fine Mossa cross with an acrobatic effort, but he was also denied by the hosts' goalkeeper.  In the final stages of the first half, Mossa fired wide, under pressure, following a free kick.
Los Azules emerged the stronger side at the start of the second half.  They were more intense and tried to dominate the ball in their opponents' half. A Mossa cross provided the source of the equaliser, with Ibra getting in front of his marker and converting well.  However, Badalona responded immediately with their second goal, and from there onwards Real Oviedo were unable to hit back, despite making changes and never giving up.  They conceded a third and final goal in the closing minutes, as Los Carbayones were eliminated from the knock-out competition.
Real Oviedo will return to Asturias tomorrow morning and recommence training upon arrival in Oviedo, at around 17:00 at El Requexón.
