Real Oviedo Vetusta played the first match of the second phase of the season today at Municipal Luis Ramos, securing a 2-0 win away from home against CD Guijuelo.
B. Hórreo; Jorge Mier, Ando, Armenteros, Fran Pacoli; Eloy Ordóñez, Guille Bernabéu, Rober, Meléndez, Sandoval and Javi Cueto was the starting eleven chosen by Emilio Cañedo today. Today's game was the first of the eight fixtures which the B team will face during this second phase of the season.
Los Azules began the first half by breaking into the opposition box more frequently than their counterparts, but without clearly dominating the match. The early stages were dominated by long balls and tight defensive lines from both teams. However, the Asturians managed to take the lead through a Javi Cueto goal in the fifteenth minute, as the forward headed home from a corner. Guijuelo looked to bounce back from the setback and threatened in attack, but Vetusta were solid defensively throughout the ninety minutes, dealing with the danger effectively. Emilio Cañedo's team then started to dominate the match, with Javi Cueto and Eloy Ordóñez forcing the home keeper into action. Real Oviedo Vetusta then had another good opportunity, as Sandoval's through ball found Eloy Ordóñez. The latter's effort hit the base of the post, before Javi Cueto's attempt from the rebound went over the bar. Nonetheless, the B team went in for halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The interval saw no changes for the side from the capital of Asturias, and the B team did not stop looking to extend the lead, while still maintaining the same level of defensive solidity. Cañedo's team looked to play with width, with the wingers creating good opportunities. The second phase of play from one corner saw Sandoval cross the ball in for Armenteros to add the second goal of the game for Vetusta. Erik Aguado came on in the first change for the Asturians, and he was soon joined by Steven. Guijuelo took control of the play in the final minutes and looked to cut the deficit, but Vetusta would create the final three chances, through Erik Aguado and Steven. Alberto Fuentes came on in the final substitution.
Today saw the B team get the second phase of the season off to a good start. Real Oviedo Vetusta will face Salamanca CF UDS next weekend, with kick-off at 17:00 on Sunday at El Requexón.
