The sixth matchday in LaLiga saw Ziganda's side travel to Catalonia to face Girona at Montilivi. The match saw Real Oviedo lose 1-0 away from home.
Los Azules emerged at Montilivi with a starting eleven made up of Femenías, Juanjo Nieto, Grippo, Bolaño, Lucas, Tejera, Edgar, Sangalli, Nahuel, Borja and Blanco Leschuk. Ziganda's side demonstrated the defensive solidity which has become its trademark since the beginning of the league season, and went toe-to-toe with the hosts. The chances were shared between both teams, but the home side managed to take advantage of one of its opportunities in the second half to claim the three points. The first half saw Real Oviedo well-organised at the back, giving away very few dangerous opportunities on Femenías' goal, but struggling to find a way through the home defence. Things continued in much the same fashion after the break, but Girona were able to make the most of a rebound to open the scoring. Edgar was then brought down by a strong challenge in the box, but VAR did not intervene. Despite these setbacks, Ziganda's players did not lose their heads and continued to go in search of the equaliser. Viti, and later Mossa and Obeng, were brought on, as Ziganda sought to freshen the side up. Los
Azules had several opportunities in the final minutes, but were unable to convert them. The match ended in a 1-0 defeat.
There is no time to rest for Ziganda's side. They will have another chance to pick up three points when they face Rayo Vallecano at home this Thursday.
