The keeper, who made two important saves yesterday against Reus, said he is happy “to help the team and keep a clean sheet”
Real Oviedo goalkeeper, Juan Carlos, appeared in the Press Room this morning following the team’s morning training session at El Requexón.
The keeper commented that he is “happy to have helped the team to win three points. Guille helped me for the first save, before I saved Mayor’s shot for the second. Most of all, I am happy that the team has won. The first save was the most difficult.”
Despite the good performances in the first two matches, Juan Carlos admitted that “we had arrived at this match on the back of conceding in the first two games, and keeping a clean sheet is always good for confidence. The defensive element helps boost morale. At the end of the day, winning is what really matters, and in the last two matches the team had done many things well without achieving the victory. We were deserved winners yesterday, and now we move on to the cup.”
The Real Oviedo insisted that “next it’s the cup match, we are only ocusing on that match against Numancia. After that, from Thursday onwards, we will think about the derby. We must focus on what comes first, which is Wednesday’s match.”
Regarding his teammates who are suffering injuries, and those coming into the team and offering something new, Juan Carlos stated that he thinks that “we have a very competitive squad, which is complete in all positions. Everyone contributes to the team, which is very important, particularly in such a long league season as this one. It’s very important to have a balanced squad, where there’s no difference in each position between those who start and those who don’t. We are the first ones to know that.”
Finally, about Wednesday’s match, Juan Carlos believes Alfonso will start in goal, and once again he had great praise for his teammate. “I’m sure that he will do very well, we’ve talked about him before and he has great ability,” he concluded.
