Real Oviedo defender Javi Fernández today appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón.
Fully-immersed in another week of training, the player admitted that "we are thinking about the Rayo match now.  The journey back from Las Palmas was hard, but all we can do now is work and get a good result."
Talking further about the clash at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, Javi Fernández reasoned that "they started better than us and disrupted our plans.  We tried to chase the match, but it wasn't to be."
With respect to the situation the team finds itself in, the centre back said that "it's about form.  We went five unbeaten and now we are finding it hard to win.  We have to go for the victory, stay united and work hard. We know that time is going by and we are still down there, but there's no point feeling sorry for ourselves.  We have to keep working to get out of it.  We aren't at the level we were at the start, but we have to get our intensity back.  We have to correct our errors, put in a good week and beat Rayo.  We have to be together, intense and go for a good result."
Asked about his feelings on a personal level, the defender admitted that "it's my first season as a professional footballer and you learn from everything.  This will harden me.  My defensive teammates help me a lot. They try to give me advice and I learn from them.  I try to absorb as much as possible and learn."
Speaking about Rayo Vallecano, Javi Fernández believes that "they are in a difficult position, but are one of the best teams in the division.  We have to focus on ourselves and play with intensity."
Finally, regarding the absence of Saúl Berjón in recent weeks, the centre half commented that "we know he's an important figure.  He's the captain. We have to push forward together."
