The Estadio de Hidalgo provided the backdrop for the first match of Real Oviedo's preseason tour of Mexico today, on a historic occasion full of symbolism, emotions, and tributes.

The build-up to the encounter saw a tribute to home player Oscar Murillo, who was bidding farewell to Pachuca. It would not be the only tribute, however, given that the hosts had organised a series of acts to celebrate Real Oviedo's visit to their home. The bagpipe band of the Mexican Centro Asturiano played a rendition of the Asturian national anthem, before a group of mariachis performed 'Cielito Lindo'. More than 300 boys and girls, bearing Pachuca and Real Oviedo flags, formed a tunnel for the players' walk out on to the pitch, while the home stand unveiled a tifo with images of Miguel Calero and Isidro Lángara.

Álvaro Cervera opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román; Lucas, Oier Luengo, Dani Calvo, Pomares; Jimmy, Luismi; Sebas Moyano, Álex Cardero, Romario and Borja Bastón.

The home side, currently at the halfway stage of their league season, emerged for the first half at a higher tempo and dominated the encounter. Real Oviedo were solid at the back, defending well and looking to counter attack to break the deadlock. However, it would be the 'Tuzos' who opened the scoring, and the hosts would go in for halftime with the lead.

The interval saw Álvaro Cervera turn to his bench and bring on Álex Millán, Hugo Rama, Abel Bretones, Masca, Yayo and Schiappacasse. Los Azules continued searching for an equaliser and threatened the home team. Álex Millán was unfortunately forced off through injury, with Charbel coming on in his place. It would be Masca who levelled the scoring in the 82nd minute, after going through one-on-one and beating the keeper. The Asturians gave it everything but were unable to find the winner.

Today's was a great experience for the travelling group, who were cheered on by more than 200 Oviedistas in the stands.

The next training session is scheduled to begin at 10:30 on Monday (18:30 Spanish time).
