The first friendly match of the preseason between the first team of Real Oviedo and Vetusta was full to the brim in the facilities at El Requexón, so much so that they had to restrict access to the public minutes before the start of the match because they had reached full-capacity.
With 11 starters on Anquela’s team reinforced by various players from the reserve team that is completing the preseason with the first team, the match started with a pair of approaches by Real Oviedo into the area of Vetusta. In the fourth minute, a corner kick by Saúl Berjón ended up as a goal by Carlos Hernández, putting Anquela’s team ahead. The next clear opportunity was had by Steven, but he got there in a difficult situation as he received a flat pass to the center of the penalty area, which was stopped by Gorka. Carlos Martínez played for 25 minutes and Lucas entered to substitute him at right back. Guille Pinín shot wide from the edge of the penalty area, after a corner-kick for Vetusta brought out by Javi Hernández. The team from Rozada also had a good attempt at the border of the penalty area between Marcelo and Guille Pinín, that ended with a deep pass to Casi. It ended up going wide of the net. The first half ended with a penalty kick by Javi Hernández, that was trapped by Alfonso.
In the second half, and with two new sets of eleven for both teams, there were less opportunities for both sides. Tejera, with a free kick from the edge of the penalty area, which was stopped by the goalkeeper from Vetusta. Borja Sánchez, with a shot from the edge of the area, tried his luck in the last few minutes, but the goalkeeper, Lucas, stopped the ball for Vetusta. A flat shot by Ernesto, that was trapped again by the goalkeeper from the blue reserve team, was the last opportunity for the players on Anquela´s team.
Thus concluded the first scrimmage of the preseason for both teams that in the next few days will have more matches to prepare for the season.
