Bitter draw at the Rafael Gordillo Sports City

A genius move by Marina Sánchez in added time denies a good Real Oviedo the three points.

Football was unfair to Real Oviedo during their visit to Seville. Andrea Suárez's team came close to their second victory of the season with a solid performance, but a goal in added time by Real Betis froze the Carbayona smiles in the 93rd minute. A cruel ending for the Blues, who deserved more.

With personality, organization, and a clear game plan, the Oviedo team stepped onto the pitch at the Rafael Gordillo Sports City determined to impose their style. From the start, the signs were positive: the ball moved better with the team from the capital of the Principality, who found spaces and created more danger than the Verdiblancas.

The reward came in the 25th minute. After a corner kick, Real Oviedo won the second ball, and it fell to the feet of Vera Rico, who didn’t hesitate. With composure, the forward placed her shot and beat the Betis goalkeeper to make it 0-1. A well-deserved reward for a team that was solid at the back and dangerous up front.

Betis responded timidly. In the play immediately after the goal, Carla had a chance to equalize but was unlucky. In the second half, Laura Martínez, very secure, made a decisive save in the 49th minute, denying Zouhir with a great stop after a shot from the Moroccan player.

Andrea Suárez made substitutions in search of fresh legs, and the Carbayonas continued to show a better image. Sheila Elorza, Auñón, and Elena Lara came on, and the dominance remained with the Blues. Vera Rico came close to scoring a second after a great recovery by Villadeamigo, but the home goalkeeper prevented it with an impressive save. The 0-2 even arrived, also by Vera, but the referee disallowed it for a very tight offside.

It seemed the game was under control, even more so when Betis was reduced to ten players after Zouhir was sent off with a second yellow card. But in the 93rd minute, Marina Sánchez, with a direct shot into the top corner, equalized. Unstoppable. 1-1. A point that feels like too little for Real Oviedo, who were the better team and had chances to seal the win. Their next match will be at El Requexón next Sunday at 11:00 a.m. against SE AEM.
