Real Oviedo defender David Costas appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today ahead of a new week of training for the first-team squad.
After Real Oviedo picked up a point against Eibar yesterday, which felt like scant reward for the team's performance, David Costas explained that "we deserved to get the three points yesterday and when we played at Ipurua. Football is like that, these things happen. We have to forget about it and think about the next match."
Asked about the fine first-half showing, the Galician centre back stated that "I don't know whether it was the best one of the season, but we started strongly and knew what we had to do. The Gaffer had drummed into us that it was an important match. We started well and took the lead, but Eibar's goal made us lose two points. There wasn't long to go and we didn't have time to react."
With respect to his goal and what it meant to him, David Costas said that "you're always happy when you score a goal and help the team out. I hadn't had chances to score for years, but I am getting chances this year and feeling confident. I am happy about the goal and about helping the team."
Going into the second half of the season and asked what the team's objective is for the remainder of the campaign, the defender believes that "we have to take it one game at a time, that's what will work best for us. We have to take each match as if it were the last one, and we will see where we are at the end of the season. We've only played two matches in the second half of the season, and we have to take it a week at a time. We have to do things well and compete every weekend to see if luck goes our way. We have a good group and good players, and we are with this team to the end."
Finally, regarding his feelings on an individual level, David Costas highlighted that "I'm finding consistency. I've played a lot of matches in a row, the Coach is giving me confidence, the club is making me feel good, and I'm happy here. I am happy and calm and that helps me play at my best."
