After training this morning alongside his teammates, Guillermo Cotugno, the latest addition to Real Oviedo during the summer transfer window, was presented at the press room in the Carlos Tartiere.
César Martín, Director of Institutional Relations, accompanied the Uruguayan defender in the presentation. He welcomed the player, thanked "his predisposition at the moment to join the project" and highlighted the fact that "he is a player with ample experience. In spite of his young age, he played in the Europa League two seasons ago. Guillermo is a versatile player who can adapt to playing in the center. We are very pleased that he is here. He can be a solution provider in the defense and is going to be very important for the team".
On his behalf, Guillermo Cotugno began by discussing his initial feelings after his first hours in Oviedo: “Very good. I'm in a beautiful city, a tranquil city, a football city. It's been a good first impression". Additionally, concerning his knowledge of España and Real Oviedo, the Uruguayan said "I have spent a preseason in Málaga, but besides that I didn't know more about Spain. I talked to Carlos de Pena about Real Oviedo and he gave me a good recommendation. I am very happy to be here and join this project".
As a matter of fact, concerning his conversation with Carlos de Pena, who played with Real Oviedo last season, Cotugno confirmed that "I asked him about the club. He only had good things to say, that they have a unique project underway. He talked to me about the stadium, and the people, who are die hard fans. They were all positive things".
When asked about the new challenge awaiting him at Real Oviedo, Guillermo Cotugno said that "it's a good thing. I took the challenge to grow, and I want to grow hand in hand with the club, we will grow together".
In regards to his own characteristics that he can contribute to the team, the Uruguayan commented: "I am a right-back who primarily likes to defend well, focusing first on defense and later trying to attack".
The defender participated in a portion of this morning's training session alongside his teammates. Regarding his first training session and Juan Antonio Anquela's methodology, he said "he has a very good attitude. I like that way he approaches players. I am very happy and I want to be with the team already". In addition, when asked if we would get minutes in the game against Deportivo de la Coruña on Thursday, Cotugno understands that "I need a few days to adapt and be with the team¨.
Finally, when questioned about Óscar Washington Tabárez's time in front of the Real Oviedo bench in the 1997/98 season and what that means to him, Cotugno said "I've been told that he coached here. I only have words of praise for him. What he represents is something beautiful, everyone knows who he is and knows what he contributed to Uruguayan football. He followed my trainings, chatted with me, and his lessons were very valuable to me".
