Real Oviedo defender, Christian Fernández, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón today.

Christian began by analysing the team’s situation ahead of this weekend’s clash at the Nou Estadi, declaring that, “we’re in good shape but it would be a mistake to think that the table will dictate anything.” In addition, regarding the impact of Enrique Martín taking charge at Nàstic, the full back reasoned that, “they’ve just changed Coach and freshened things up. It’s going to do them good. We know Enrique and know that we are going to face direct football. We are influenced by the Coach’s past teams, but it’s all a mystery really.”

Asked for a summary of the team’s overall performance at the start of this season, Christian Fernández argued that, “you do that at the end of the season, when everything is on the table. We are finding ourselves, but the truth is that we’ve been inconsistent. We hope we can find what we are looking for. We need calmness and tranquility. We are still learning and in a good position in the table, but we have to be consistent.” In addition, the full back claimed that, “Anquela’s sides usually start inconsistently, before ending the season fighting for their objectives. Everybody manages the surrounding feelings in different ways. We need to stick together, know that the group is the most important thing, and be a tight unit.”

With respect to what he thinks is important for the upcoming LaLiga matches, Christian stated that, “it’s all about consistency. If we only compete at home and don’t get any points away then we won’t reach the playoffs. We’ve taken a step forward this year and we are competing both at home and away.”

Finally, regarding the commotion which followed the Real Oviedo-Osasuna match, the defender declared himself “indifferent to any controversy around me,” highlighting that “this is a business. You have to sell it, and this week it’s been my turn. We’ve moved on and are thinking about Nàstic,” he concluded.
