Real Oviedo defender Christian Fernández today became the final player to speak in the Press Room this week. He spoke at the end of what has been an unusual week, due to the club not having a fixture this weekend. “This week has inevitably been coming, but I think that it came at a good time for us. We are coming off the back of three matches in which we deserved better results than we received, and it’s possible that it has affected the team a little bit. We had a lot of hope invested in those matches. We were counting on winning, and we’ve had to settle for two draws. That complicates things a little bit, but does not take away our chance of making the playoffs We have to clear our minds and come out with renewed strength to face what’s still to come.”

With nine matchdays remaining until the end of the regular league season the Cantabrian issued a reminder that “there are 24 points (to play for), not counting the points that LaLiga gives us for the Reus game, and I believe that all possibilities are still intact. We would like to be in the top six but I’m sure there will be surprises between now and the end of the season, and we have to be ready for any chances we are given by the teams above us.” For Christian, the team is “playing well and has a good attitude, but is taking away our lowest points return of the season at the moment.”

When asked about the final stretch of the competition, with eight matches still to come, starting with the clash against Córdoba, the defender concluded by saying that “once you get to this final stretch, in which all the squads have played a lot of minutes and you are months into the season, your head is what allows you to achieve your ambitious targets. This team has stood out for its perseverance, and football is putting a good battle in front of us. We are ready to face it.”
