Real Oviedo goalkeeper Nereo Champagne appeared in the Press Room this morning, after his outstanding performance against Nástic de Tarragona, which featured two great saves.

The Argentinian keeper admitted that the victory was “very important, since we got those three points, and we did so by playing the way that we want to play. It was a key win for us because we came into it not getting the results that we wanted and also due to the period of the season (we are now in). Yesterday we had clear chances, several more than just the goals. We scored two and that gave us what we needed to win.”

In addition to the good finishing in front of goal, Champagne highlighted the defensive work as a team. “We were organised from the first minute to the last, from Joselu right the way back through the team. We defended well and we knew how to counter the siege when they attacked. This says a lot about the maturity of the team.”

Regarding his current good form, the goalkeeper stated that “I train and prepare myself to contribute what I can. I have to make saves and yesterday I had the chances to do so. I am gaining confidence as the matches go by. I want to keep helping.”

When asked to about the special week the comes with the derby, Champagne concluded by explaining that “we know that it is special because of everything that comes with it from the outside, but on the inside we put in the same hard work, focusing on our strengths and correcting mistakes. I know what this match means. You don’t have to explain it to anybody, nor do I have to explain it. It is a special match. When I came here they told me about the Tartiere and how it pushed you on, and then about the derby. It’s one of the greatest rivalries in Spain. I was lucky in the first match and saw how everything goes. Everything leading up to it, the day of the match… it is all special. We are in a position to keep fighting, and that is important when it comes to the points, not just in the football aspects.”
