Real Oviedo defender, Carlos Hernández, appeared in the Press Room at El Requexón following the latest training session for Juan Antonio Anquela’s men.
Sunday’s match will be special for the centre back as he comes up against his former club, CD Lugo. Talking about this issue, the Real Oviedo man said that, “it’s nice to come up against your old club. They are doing well, and we must make the most of playing in the Tartiere to end that. We have to win.”
Furthermore, speaking about CD Lugo, their style of play, and their fine current run of form, Carlos stated that, “they have a good team and do things well. They are a good example of what the Segunda División is about; they don’t concede many, and take their chances. We must be like Lugo, strong in defence. They have players who like to get on the ball, put pressure on the opposition when they lose the ball, and have had the good luck to win games in the final minutes. They are doing things well and it is going to be a difficult match, but I hope that we can win.”
Talking about the importance of keeping clean sheets in order to be one step closer to victory, the defender said that, “in the Segunda, if they score first then everything becomes much harder. We have to focus and if we do concede then come from behind. That is what the Coach asks of us. In the matches we have won, the clean sheet has been very important.”
With respect to what it means to be back at the Tartiere, the Real Oviedo defender argued that, “the Tartiere is the best place to get back to winning ways. We must be strong and at our best. It’s true that there is more pressure when you have lost, and we must bounce back with a win.”
When asked about the schedule the team is facing with two consecutive away matches after this weekend, and the importance of winning away from home, Carlos replied that, “it is always necessary to win. However, right now we are only focusing on this Sunday, and after that we will think about the next match. We have to make the most of the fact we are playing at home to perform at our best.”
Finally, regarding the similarities between this weekend’s match and the match against Cádiz, who arrived at the Carlos Tartiere top of the table but were beaten by Real Oviedo, the defender declared that, “this team can go toe-to-toe with anybody. It’s all about performance and attitude. We have to improve, but if we do things well we are a good team and can beat anybody,” he concluded.
