Anquela: "Disappointment, yes; failure, no"

The coach is "extremely proud to work with the people that run this club" and hopes the coherence and the solid pillars the club is creating will continue to grow

Real Oviedo's coach, Juan Antonio Anquela, appeared in the Press Room following a training session at El Requexón. In this last match, making it to the Play Off does not depend only on the team, but mathematically they  still have options to fight for a place in the Play Off. The Jaén-born coach indicated that "we had to work until the last minute of the last match. It is what we have declared all year. We were in better conditions than we are now, but we are in what we have been saying since the start of the season."

Faced with Huesca, a team that are already in Primera División, Anquela does not have any doubts that "they are not going to give us anything. They have come to this point with their homework done; if only we were in their situation. If we want to win, we have to fight a lot and do things right. They have been the best team all season."

Additionally, Oviedo's coach wanted to explain what the end of the season means for him and wanted to clarify some of the ideas about the season, as well as the present and the future of the club. "I have heard the word failure and it is a word that has been used freely. Evaluations are given at the end of the season, and they are divided into two things: reality, and what we wanted to achieve. In reality, we have had an acceptable year, and in what we wanted to achieve, we have not accomplished it. We are disappointed, but we've given our all. You can't live on lies, you must be up to date and see reality. The men who took this team made it out of ruins. They have revived it and have made solid, strong foundations. Now we don't owe anybody money; they are doing things well. The whole world talks about Real Oviedo, and those who want to come here, you have to give them four times as much. My players have given one hundred percent, without fooling anybody. When we haven't given that much, we've neither won nor tied.

Regarding his work methods and his opinion with respect to the market since he joined the Real Oviedo organization, Anquela explained that "I sit here with Joaquín and Ángel, and they say, this one is asking for this and I tell them, but if he was paid this. Here, they ask for more because we're Real Oviedo. This club is doing things well, that's how I see it. We do what we can. We are popular and have tremendous potential in everything, but we have to look at what has happened in the recent past. We can't forget about it, ever. I am disappointed, I've said as much. Because I thought we would be higher, but because of our hard work. I have said it many times. It is easy to criticize, but you must put yourself in their shoes, sit down and understand why. We are not better or worse than any other team, and between Primera and Segunda B there is very little. Mallorca was promoted last week and had a budget of several million euros. Elche, in Segunda B. When things are done without coherence, what must happen, happens. I am very proud to be working with these people, and I hope I can work here longer because I want to be in Real Oviedo. If I could, all players on my team would sign each year, because at the end, the evaluations are given and you go home, or you stay here. We have to get rid of this archaic notion because the reality is that there are people that are working wonders and putting this team on the map, but with a solid base. You can't spend so much and not pay the debt, you have to go little by little, and I believe that they are doing it splendidly. To those who are working in the office and leave their life behind for this team, searching for players where they can because sometimes you can't pay what they're asking. We are there because we compete, and we are a group. You can't fool people because it always comes back to you. I am extremely proud to belong to Real Oviedo. I have never felt so much support anywhere else. And we still have one day left, and we still have a chance to be. We should keep going on this path to establish foundations for the future that I believe this team have," he concluded.
