Real Oviedo arrived at El Alcoraz with players missing, but also with personality. Their game plan managed to surprise and subdue Huesca during the opening minutes. However, Michel countered these tactics, making adjustments to his side as they looked to get in behind the Real Oviedo defence. The hosts managed to score two goals from a couple of their early attacks. Raba and Mikel Rico both got on the mark within five minutes of one another, before the half-hour mark. Real Oviedo didn't let their heads drop, and Christian Fernández headed home from a corner to make the score 2-1. The defender had another chance on the verge of halftime, but a fine save prevented him equalising.
The first chance of the second half again fell to Rozada's side, with Carlos Hernández being denied by the keeper from a back-post effort. Nereo intervened to deal with Huesca's clearest attack. Bárcenas and Ibra came on during Real Oviedo's best spell, as the team searched for an equaliser. Huesca seemed to have sealed the win with an Okazaki goal, but VAR ruled it out for offside. The Asturians were unable to put together possession to allow them to push forward, but Yoel Bárcenas did still have a chance on the counterattack, as his flicked header was denied by the keeper. Mikel Rico sealed a 3-1 win for the hosts in the 85th minute.
