Real Oviedo’s 2016-17 season came to an end following a 2-0 victory against Elche CF away at the Martínez Valero. Despite this result, the results of Real Oviedo’s playoff-chasing rivals left the Asturian side in eighth place; two points adrift.

The match took place in front of a dejected Martínez Valero, with the home side having been relegated the week before. This peculiar atmosphere affected Real Oviedo, who failed to find their rhythm in the first half. Susaeta’s free kick, a Toché shot which flashed wide, and a Linares shot straight at Germán were Real Oviedo’s best chances before the break.
Costas, Saúl and Johannesson also had opportunities, but halftime arrived with the score still goalless.

In the second half, Toché provided Real Oviedo with some momentary hope, heading them into the lead in the scoresheet, although they were still never mathematically in the playoff spots. He headed home a fine Susaeta cross, before Nando sealed a 2-0 victory.

As such, and with Real Oviedo fans in the stands at the Martínez Valero, Real Oviedo bid farewell to the season in eighth place.
