A Point Was Not Enough

Goals from Ibra, Saúl and Joselu were not enough to earn the victory

Real Oviedo were unable to overcome Córdoba CF, despite having been in the lead for virtually the entire match, and they suffered the displeasure of the fans at the Carlos Tartiere at the full-time whistle.

The match began with ‘Los Azules’ in complete control, and they also managed to convert their domination into goals. The first arrived in the second minute, with Ibra nudging home the rebound from Saúl’s cross-shot to
make the score 1-0. Saúl Berjón then turned scorer, curling a beautiful finish into the top corner to put Anquela’s side firmly in control. Ibra had a chance to make it three, but his header from a cross grazed the post. However, just when the match seemed to be going completely against them, Córdoba woke up. Piovaccari came on in place of the injured Jaime and brought new life to the Andalusian side. The forward scored to cut the deficit, and the teams went in for halftime with the score 2-1.

After the break, Ibra and Carlos Hernández both had chances kept out by the visiting keeper. Yoel Bárcenas went off and was replaced by Javi Muñoz, as the Asturians looked for greater presence in midfield. Ibra tried to finish a one-on-one by firing across the goalkeeper but was denied, just before the away side found the equaliser. Joselu and Toché entered the fray and Real Oviedo managed to make the score 3-2. Joselu fired a sublime free kick into the top corner in the 83rd minute to put the hosts back into the lead. Córdoba, however, found another equaliser, making the score 3-3.

The team will return to training at 10:30 this Tuesday at El Requexón.
