Facing the team top of the league away from home, and in the final game of the first round of fixtures, Real Oviedo proved more than up to the challenge right from the first minute. The team produced one of the best first forty-five minutes of the season. This was despite missing the chance to take the lead from a penalty, as Remiro kept out Linares’ spot kick, before Huesca took the lead following a lapse in concentration from Alfonso at a goal kick.

Real Oviedo emerged the stronger side and dominated the early stages. Rocha fired just wide following a fine piece of solo play by Johannesson. Shortly afterwards, Linares took the penalty awarded for a foul on Aarón Ñíguez, but Remiro denied him. The match remained goalless until the worst moment of the match for Real Oviedo. Alfonso didn’t spot Alex Gallar behind him from a goal kick, and the striker managed to rob the ball and open the scoring. However, Anquela’s men bounced back strongly from this blow, and ended the half by controlling the game up until the interval.

The Asturians maintained their focus on the match in the second half, and increased their presence in attack as the minutes ticked by. After a couple of chances and set pieces, the goal would finally arrive from the left wing. Mossa began the move, before playing the ball to Saúl. The winger twisted and turned before managing to get the cross in to Aarón, who culminated the fine move by providing the equaliser. The match would finish level, with Real Oviedo working until the very end, and probably deserving of an even greater reward away at the team top of the league. Real Oviedo are currently third in the table having now completed the first half of the season’s fixtures.
