Matchday 16 in LaLiga Smartbank saw Real Oviedo welcome Alcorcón to the NMR Carlos Tartiere. The fixture ended in the two teams sharing the points.
Cuco Ziganda selected a starting line-up made up of Femenías, Juanjo Nieto, Arribas, Bolaño, Lucas; Sangalli, Edgar, Tejera, Borja Sánchez; Blanco Leschuk and Nahuel for the match. Los Azules had the better of the chances and dominated the play, but Alcorcón did not make things easy for the side from the capital of Asturias.
The first half saw the visitors emerge strongly for the match, threatening the goal defended by Femenías. The Madrid side were very well-organised in defence and closed off the spaces to Real Oviedo. However, the Asturians gradually took control of the ball, and started to create danger on the wings. Nahuel had the first clear chance, after robbing the ball as the away side tried to play their way out of defence. A few minutes later, some fine combination play between Nahuel and Sangalli saw the latter leave the ball on a plate for Juanjo Nieto, but the full back's strike hit the post. Alcorcón barely threatened the Carbayón goal during the first half, but the two teams went in for halftime with the score still 0-0.
Alcorcón continued to try their luck from counter attacks and efforts from outside the box after the interval, calling Femenías into action on several occasions. Real Oviedo, meanwhile, looked to maintain the continuity in their play, as they controlled possession and sought to open up gaps between the lines. Ziganda's side again showed great defensive solidity, working hard to deal with the visitors' long balls. Tejera had one opportunity from outside the area, before Borja Sánchez also had a decent chance to open the scoring. Samuel Obeng replaced Blanco Leschuk in the 63rd minute, before Rodri Ríos came on for Borja Sánchez in the 76th minute, while Cedric and Javi Mier were the final changes used by Ziganda. In the final moments of the game the referee decided to award Alcorcón a penalty after consulting VAR. The away team opened the scoring, but Real Oviedo did not give up. One final flurry saw Sangalli grab an equaliser, while Los Azules even had several opportunities to grab a winner in the dying moments.
Another point to the tally for Real Oviedo, who will begin work tomorrow ahead of Sunday's fixture against CE Sabadell at Nova Creu Alta.
