The Carlos Tartiere hosted the first Asturian derby of the 2023/2024 season this afternoon, as Real Oviedo went in search of their first victory of the campaign. Álvaro Cervera opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román, Viti, Oier Luengo, Dani Calvo, David Costas, Abel Bretones, Luismi, Seoane, Sebas Moyano, Paulino de la Fuente and Borja Bastón.

The clash got underway and the importance of the encounter was apparent from the outset. Los Azules used the same formation as in Levante last time out, maintaining their defensive solidity and looking to do damage on the counter attack and down the wings. Our team would have their first clear opportunity in the 18th minute, when Sebas Moyano's cross-shot went just wide of the away side's goal.

The winger led the majority of Cervera's side's attacks during the first half, and was a constant threat over the course of the first forty-five minutes. A fine individual piece of play in the 29th minute got the Oviedistas up off their seats, but his attempt struck an away defender. Real Oviedo were on top during the final stages of the half, but the two teams would go in for the interval with the score 0-0.

Los Carbayones took a step forward after the break, with Sporting de Gijón barely threatening. Real Oviedo dominated constantly throughout the second half, but without creating too many clear chances. In the 65th minute the visitors lost the ball in their own half, offering a good opportunity on the counter attack, but Bastón was unable to capitalise.

Just as Real Oviedo were enjoying their brightest spell, the away team would have their only chance. Cote's shot from outside the area went just wide of the right-hand upright. Los Azules kept trying from set pieces during the final stages of the encounter, but could not quite find the goal. The full-time whistle blew with the score still 0-0.

The team from the capital of Asturias will go back to training tomorrow, as preparations begin for the league fixture against FC Andorra.
