A NEW ERA (2012 - …)

Questionable management decisions meant that in Summer 2012 the club again found themselves in a precarious situation.

Once again, the fans would pull together to write a beautiful new page in the history of Los Azules.  The share campaign launched raised almost 2 million euros; the required amount to save a club with more than 86 years of history.  On this occasion, salvation came due to a global mobilisation, aided by the Internet and social networks.  The movement reached people in a huge number of countries across five continents.  Finally, the arrival of Grupo Carso as controlling shareholder would culminate the process.  The group is the property of Carlos Slim, a world-renowned businessman.

With the club reinvigorated by everything which came to pass in 2012, Grupo Carso’s first project culminated in the 2014/15 season with the club’s return to the professional ranks of La Liga.  Real Oviedo finished the season as champions of Group 1 of Segunda División B, and triumphed over Cádiz CF in the subsequent playoff fixtures.  Real Oviedo sealed their promotion back to the Second Division on 31st May 2015, defeating Cádiz CF 1-0 away at the Ramón de Carranza Stadium, with a goal from David Fernández.
