Real Oviedo Head Coach Cuco Ziganda began today's press conference at El Requexón by analysing the state of the squad going into Wednesday's fixture at Ipurúa. "Arribas, Carlos (Isaac) and Javi Mier won't make it for Eibar, but we will have the rest available. Borja Sánchez was hit hard by a fever on Sunday, but we hope he will be feeling better."
Discussing the fast-approaching Eibar fixture, the Gaffer highlighted that it's a week in which "we are working on a bit of everything. We have looked at some things from the previous match, and today we will look at tomorrow's match." However, he admitted that "you have to adapt. It's not like at the start, when you needed more time for players to link up. Now we know what is required and are going into the match with complete assurance."
Ahead of possible changes to the starting eleven and the prospect of Luismi coming into the centre of midfield to offer a rest to the most-used players in recent weeks, the Coach stated that "it's an option. We are short on numbers in that area of the field and we need to freshen up to maintain the demands the fixture requires. Bringing Luismi in is going to do us good. The facts we play within two days, recovery time and travel all play a part... if it were the final match of the season then perhaps I'd pick a different team, but now we will make changes."
Asked about Jorge Pombo's role, with the midfielder bringing spark and freshness to the attack every time he enters the field, Ziganda highlighted that "he's contributing and I'm happy. We are making the most of the form of those that are starting at the moment. It's all about having a deep squad and being able to make the most of peaks in form."
With respect to what he expects to see from Real Oviedo against Eibar on Wednesday, the Coach believes that "we have certain things which make us a serious and respected team, and we aren't going to change that now. We are always stand up in the right way and control passages of the game, and tomorrow will be the same. We know the opponent we are up against and the squad they have, but we are going there with the confidence that we are a team that always stands up and that is committed.
Talking about the next opponent, the Coach commented that "they found it hard to adjust at the start and had some poor results, but now the coach has turned it into a very solid squad. They have experience and have built a squad with intelligence and quality. They are the favourites for promotion. We have to respect every opponent, but Eibar is the most complete side."
Finally, asked what Viti is contributing to the team, Ziganda reasoned that "anyone who likes football knows that Viti had a great game the other day on every level. He does a lot of things well, is in a good moment of confidence and is determined. Viti pushes the team forward. He is a different player and he gives us energy and spark. He's a local boy and he is demonstrating that he wants to stay here. He is making the most of his opportunity."
