Real Oviedo Vetusta picked up a last-gasp equaliser against Rayo Cantabria today at El Requexón, after coming back from being 2-0 down. The B team gave it everything in the second half and would eventually get their reward thanks to two Xavi Sola goals, only being denied the win by the referee controversially ruling out Santi Miguélez's strike.

Jaime Álvarez's team emerged strongly for the encounter, taking charge of the early stages. Vetusta dominated the opening 20 minutes, while Rayo Cantabria barely threatened. However, the visitors would take the lead from their first attack with a wondergoal. Five minutes later things would get even worse for Los Azules, with Santamaría capitalising on a defensive error to double the away lead. The score was 2-0 to the visitors at half-time.

Vetusta gave it everything after the break, and Aimar Collante, Dieguito, and Xavi Sola entered the fray. Nacho Estrada also replaced Enol in the 60th minute, and the Asturians threw everything at the encounter in their search for a goal which would bring them back into the game. Sola eventually headed home in the 71st minute to cut the deficit. In the 89th minute Miguélez found the equaliser, but the official inexplicably decided to rule it out. Assistant coach Andrés Vallino was dismissed for his protests. Despite this, Vetusta did not give up, and would earn their deserved point in the 95th minute when Xavi Sola used his back to make the score 2-2 and rescue a draw.

It was a well-deserved reward for Jaime Álvarez's side in their battle to move out of the relegation zone.
