Real Oviedo Vetusta went into their Matchday 15 fixture against Pontevedra CF with the idea of maintaining their recent good run of form. The Asturians went into the encounter off the back of three consecutive victories and looking to prolong the run against one of the toughest opponents in the division. Head Coach Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Marco, Jaime Vázquez, Lucas Laso, Marco Esteban, Omar Falah, Yayo, Iván, Sesé, Darío Hidalgo, Santi Miguélez and Xavi Sola.
The match began with Vetusta looking to take the initiative and push the visitors back, starting the match strongly. However, the Galicians struck first, with Charly capitalising on a rebound to give Pontevedra the lead. Nonetheless, Vetusta stuck to the gameplan and in the 35th minute Miguélez found the well-deserved equaliser, firing home a fine free kick to make the score 1-1. Just as it seemed that the two teams would go in for the break with the scores level, an unfortunate passage of play saw Lucas Laso turn the ball into his own net.
Pontevedra emerged strongly for the second half, pressing Vetusta back as they went in search of a third goal. Los Azules stood up to the threat well, but in the 54th minute Laso suffered the misfortune of once again finding the back of his own net, making things very difficult. Los Carbayones looked to hit back, and half-time substitute Cheli cut the deficit in the 75th minute. The B team pushed on in the final stages in search of an equaliser, but in the end it wasn't possible.
The B team played well today but fell to an unfortunate defeat against one of the best teams in the division. Thoughts now turn to next weekend's fixture against Zamora.
