Real Oviedo Vetusta went into their encounter with CD Covadonga in Matchday 31 in Grupo 1 of the Segunda RFEF with the need to win to keep their survival hopes alive. Roberto Aguirre took charge of his first match with the B team, and opted for a starting eleven made up of Marco, Jaime Vázquez, Lucas Laso, Aimar Collante, Marco Esteban, Yayo, Víctor Blanco, Sesé, Omar Falah, Miguélez and Xavi Sola.

The B team emerged strongly for the encounter and had several clear opportunities to take the lead. A fine Miguélez effort from outside the area went close right at the start of the encounter, but he was denied by the keeper. A few minutes later Omar Falah also went close to opening the scoring, but his strike went just wide. Covadonga barely threatened early on, and Vetusta remained incapable of converting their chances. Miguélez went through one-on-one but was also unable to find the back of the net from what was Vetusta's best opportunity of the first half. After these frights, Covadonga woke up and opened the scoring from their very first attack, and the two teams went in for half-time with the score 1-0.

Roberto Aguirre's side emerged strongly after the interval, and Miguélez had another chance to grab a goal for the B team, but he was denied by the keeper once more. Cheli, Dario, Dieguito, and Izan came on as Vetusta looked for a response, but the side was unable to create any clear chances during the second half.

Today's defeat was a tough one to take against a relegation rival. Following Gimnástica's defeat, however, the team remains the same distance from safety as it had been prior to the weekend. The B team is four points off the relegation playoff with three matches remaining. Next time out they will be up against Compostela at El Requexón.
