A model of Teatinos stadium, where Real Oviedo played its first ever competitive match in 1926, today became part of the vast Real Oviedo historical archive.
The replica of Teatinos stadium, created by the Basiliscus y Cía association, was presented to the Real Oviedo Foundation today, exactly 102 years after the stadium was officially inaugurated.
The model was created by artists Francisco Javier García Álvarez and Aurora García Álvarez, two members of Basiliscus y Cía. It was made on a 1:87 scale, was mostly formed from cut-out paper, and measures 2m x 1.22m.
The artists have spent eight months creating the model. In order to bring the necessary designs and templates to life, they based the work on the model from the 3D video produced by Basiliscus y Cía in 2019 to mark the centenary of the stadium's inauguration.
Teatinos stadium was inaugurated on 31st August 1919 by Real Club Deportivo de Oviedo, with the inauguration featuring a series of both athletics and football events.
The stadium was Real Club Deportivo de Oviedo's football ground from 1919 to 1926. When Real Club Deportivo de Oviedo and Real Stadium Club Ovetense joined together in 1926 to form Real Oviedo, Teatinos stadium became the home of the new club.
Real Oviedo played its first competitive match at Teatinos on 17th October 1926. The fixture was the first match of the 1926/27 Asturian Regional Championship and saw Real Oviedo triumph 8-2 against Racing de Sama. In 1932 Real Oviedo left Teatinos and began to play at the Stadium de Buenavista. Basiliscus y Cía is a group of Oviedistas which was born a few years ago with the aim of researching, promoting, and protecting the history of the two founder clubs which later formed Real Oviedo. The group works voluntarily and is non-profit, and has worked with Real Oviedo completely free of charge for a long while. Basiliscus y Cía is led by student of Real Oviedo's history, Marcos García (@Basiliscus1926).
