The last month of Javi Moreno, born in Oviedo in 2000, could be described as a dream coming true. The Real Oviedo Vetusta defender has reached what is one of his greatest aims in football, just as it is for many other players in our academy, as he made his competitive first-team debut at the Carlos Tartiere.
The first half of the Real Oviedo v SD Ponferradina fixture saw the defender represent his beloved club in a home match for the first time. He picked up a good amount of gametime as well as the applause of the home fans, who recognised the player’s hard work and commitment during his debut. Javi Moreno’s opportunity arrived suddenly, but it was not by chance. The defender has been working “day by day so that I was prepared for the day that the opportunity came”, as he stated on Real Oviedo TV on 10th December.
The academy player looks back over his history at the club, analysing his departure from the club in the Juvenil age group, his return to his former home, and the key factors behind a season which is seeing him lead the Real Oviedo Vetusta defence which currently sits top of the league. The defender has put in a fine first half of the season, producing great performances throughout the campaign so far.
