Real Oviedo has paid tribute to Pelayo Novo during this Friday's match against Tenerife at the Carlos Tartiere. Los Carbayones have carried out a series of different acts in memory of the Asturian footballer ahead of the encounter, as well as during the match itself.

Prior to kick-off, the club placed the shirts of all of the Spanish teams which Pelayo Novo represented during his professional career (Elche, Córdoba, Lugo, Albacete, and Real Oviedo) on the pitch. Tomeu Nadal and Aitor Sanz represented Real Oviedo and Tenerife as they paid tribute to Pelayo, and presented Pelayo's wife and father with with a captain's armband reading 'Eterna Sonrisa' ('Eternal Smile'). In addition, both teams used a captain's armband similar to the one presented to Pelayo during the presentation of the Foundation, personalised for the occasion with the badges of the two sides.

The Carlos Tartiere then held an emotional minute's silence in memory of the Asturian, and he would be present once more just six minutes later. Real Oviedo fans and other people in attendance at the match took to their feet in the 6th minute, the shirt number used by Pelayo, for a minute's applause.

Real Oviedo would like to thank Tenerife, Elche, Córdoba, Lugo, Albacete, the match officials and LaLiga for their collaboration in allowing us to pay such a heartfelt tribute to our academy product.

Pelayo was, is, and will be, eternal in the heart of the Real Oviedo family.
