Real Oviedo needed to win, and did not do so. The team needed to make the fans happy and pick up their first win of the season. They weren't able to do so, and the afternoon ended with the Tartiere showing their anger towards all areas of the club.

With Saúl Berjón absent through illness, Sergio Egea opted for a 4-4-2, with Joselu and Ortuño up front and Yoel Bárcenas on the wing. Yacine Qasmi opened the scoring in the 15th minute, from Elche's first attack. Real Oviedo began to struggle against the tide, and the match became increasingly difficult. Ortuño fired just wide from a good chance, after controlling well and trying his luck from inside the area. The teams went in for the break with the score 0-1.

Ortuño had another opportunity at the start of the second half, but fired into the hands of Edgar Badía. From the following passage of play, Real Oviedo attacked and appealed for a handball on the edge of the Elche box. The away side ended up countering and sealing a 2-0 win with another Yacine goal. Obeng and Omar Ramos came on, and Ortuño and Tejera both went close. Obeng was then given a straight red card, before Tejera saw a second yellow. The final minutes were a scene of desolation at the Tartiere, with fans showing their anger towards all parts of the club.
