Following a day of celebrations of the club's 98th anniversary, Real Oviedo came up against Villarreal B this afternoon at the Carlos Tartiere, in what was a crucial encounter for Los Carbayones in their fight to move closer to the top of the table. In front of a large crowd, Real Oviedo went into the match with the following starting eleven: Leo Román, Oier Luengo, Dani Calvo, Viti, Abel Bretones, Colombatto, Luismi, Sebas Moyano, Masca, Cazorla, and Alemão.

The match could not have got off to a better start for the Asturians, with some good pressing work leading to Alemão giving Carrión's side the lead in just the fifth minute. However, as the minutes ticked by the visitors began to gain territory and dominate the midfield. Real Oviedo stood up to the away team's threat, but a piece of misfortune would see Villarreal B equalise just before the interval. VAR brought the referee's attention to a handball by Abel Bretones, and Ontiveros made no mistake from the spot to make the score 1-1. Nevertheless, in first-half stoppage time Alemão restored Los Azules' advantage and sent the Carlos Tartiere wild. Viti's sensational cross to the back post saw the Brazilian forrward turn the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Real Oviedo were relentless in their search for a third goal to seal the victory during the second half, with Luis Carrión's team creating several different opportunities. Masca went close with a backheel, but his effort was kept out by the keeper and also deemed to be offside. Álex Millán, Seoane, and Dubasin came on to freshen up the team during the second half. A fine save from Leo Román denied the B team from one of their attacks, while in the final minutes Millán had the chance to confirm the victory. The forward went through one-on-one but fired just wide of the post.

It was a hard fight, but Real Oviedo held on for a key victory in the battle for promotion, on a special day for all Oviedistas.
