Real Oviedo Vetusta faced CD Covadonga today at El Requexón, as the two sides finally played their rearranged Matchday 11 fixture. The game had previously been postponed due to Covid-19 cases amongst the visitors.
Los Azules emerged for today's match with a starting eleven made up of B. Hórreo; Jorge Mier, Armenteros, Pedro Inglés, Prada; Meléndez, Guille Bernabéu, Alberto F.; Sandoval, Eloy Ordóñez and Javi Cueto. They grew stronger as the game at El Requexón progressed.
The first half was a very even affair, with the two teams sharing possession. CD Covadonga fired the first warning shot, and Berto Hórreo had to make a fine intervention to prevent the opening goal. Emilio Cañedo's side did not manage to create clear chances, and found it difficult to link passes between the midfield and the men up front.
The Coach made changes during the halftime interval, bringing on Ámez and Erik Aguado, and Los Azules would take the lead almost immediately, through a Javi Cueto goal. The B team began to put moves together and threaten Aitor in the visitors' goal. One such piece of play saw one of the away defenders handle the ball inside the box, with the referee awarding a penalty to Real Oviedo Vetusta. Javi Cueto doubled his tally for the match and increased Emilio Cañedo's team's lead. With the score now 2-0, the match developed a phase in which the B team and CD Covadonga shared the play and the chances. In the final stages Vetusta pushed on to try to increase their advantage, but CD Covadonga instead managed to cut the deficit. Fran Pacoli, Lorea and Joselu were the other substitutes used by Vetusta today.
These were three important points for Real Oviedo Vetusta, who will not have a fixture this weekend, after the match against CD Numancia was postponed.
