Prior to this evening's match against Cartagena at the Carlos Tartiere, Borja Bastón was presented with his awards as last season's top scorer in the Segunda División. The striker received the Pichichi and Zarra trophies from Real Oviedo legend Carlos Muñoz Cobo. There was also a minute's silence ahead of kick-off to mark the tragic events in Indonesia.
The game began in a negative fashion for Jon Pérez Bolo's side, with Sadiku putting the visitors into the lead in just the ninth minute. Los Carbayones found it hard to recover from the setback, and, following a fine save from Tomeu Nadal, Cartagena doubled the lead from the resulting corner. Alcalá fired home, and the away team went in for halftime with the score 0-2. Javi Mier went closest for Real Oviedo in the first half, with his strike denied by the keeper.
Real Oviedo tried to emerge in a different manner for the second half and regain control of the match. Neither the substitutions made nor the few dangerous attacks created could alter the pattern of the encounter, with Alcalá adding the third goal from a corner.
In added time a fine cross from Abel Bretones found Sangalli, before Borja Bastón finally turned the ball home. The consolation goal was confirmed following a VAR check. Real Oviedo will begin work tomorrow ahead of the fixture in Zaragoza.
