On this day, June 23, in the year 1946, Oviedo defender Jugo made his debut with the Spanish national team in a match against Ireland held at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.

Juan Jugo Larrauri, born in Galdácano (Vizcaya) on March 15, 1920, and known in the football world by his first surname, joined the first team of Real Oviedo on August 17, 1945, coming from Sabadell. He played as a defender and remained at Real Oviedo for two seasons.

On that June 23, 1946, he debuted with the Spanish national team, whose starting eleven that day was as follows: Eizaguirre, Jugo, Aparicio, Gonzalvo III, Ipiña, Huete, Iriondo, Panizo, Martín, César, Gaínza. The only substitution for the Spanish team occurred in the 35th minute of the match when Martín, injured, was replaced by Zarra. The Spanish coach was Luis Casas Pasarín, who years later would become the coach of Real Oviedo in two different periods. The match was a friendly, and the final score was 0-1.

Jugo was the sixth player contributed by Real Oviedo to the Spanish national team, where Lángara, Galé, Herrerita, Soladrero, and Emilín had previously debuted. Juan Jugo Larrauri passed away in Zaragoza at the age of 87 on October 13, 2007.
